Orthopedic Residency at Performance

In alignment with our identity as teachers and scholars, the Performance Optimal Health Orthopedic Residency program seeks to educate and mentor physical therapists to become outstanding advanced practitioners with a well-rounded approach to patient care.

About

The Performance Optimal Health Orthopedic Residency is a 12-month program completed while maintaining a full-time clinical schedule. The residency is in-house throughout the various Performance Optimal Health locations and begins on January 1, 2025. The resident will receive a salary and benefits included in employment with Performance Optimal Health. Please explore our website for more information on each of our locations.

Curriculum

The Performance Optimal Health Orthopedic Residency uses a combination of Academy of Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency Curriculum, weekend lab intensives, Journal Clubs, and Case Reports to provide a well-rounded curriculum. The curriculum is accessed via an online learning platform unique to Performance Optimal Health.

Admissions Criteria

The following are required for consideration for admission to the residency program:

  • The resident must graduate from a CAPTE-accredited Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program.
  • Possession of current license to practice physical therapy in the state of Connecticut.
  • No history of professional license suspension, probation, revocation, or ongoing investigation.
  • CPR certified.
  • Active membership in the APTA (national, state, and orthopedic section).
  • Active membership in the AOPT.

In addition to the above requirements, applicants must submit a completed application through PTCAS along with two reference letters.

Britt Gunsser

Meet the Residency Director

Britt Gunsser, PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS, is a board certified orthopedic clinical specialist, certified Schroth therapist and dry needling specialist. As the lead of clinical education for Performance Optimal Health, she mentors physical therapy students, ensures that her colleagues have access to and are familiar with the latest evidence-based practice, and has prepared colleagues with an Orthopedic Certified Specialist exam prep course with a 100% pass rate.

Britt has taken on the role of director for Performance Optimal Health’s Orthopedic Residency program with the goal of educating and mentoring residents to become advanced-practicing, well-rounded physical therapists.
